Our clothes run true to North American sizing standards. If you're ever in between sizing, the larger size is usually the best bet, as our styles tend to be more fitted than loose.
Care
This is one of the more awkward questions to answer...
The short answer is yes. Absolutely.
But that’s assuming you keep yourself clean. Catch our drift? Unlike cotton underwear, these will wick away moisture and prevent any odour causing bacteria so they can be worn for many days without a wash. That said, life happens so use your judgment and refresh these with a quick hand wash and air dry as frequently as you require.

Unbound Merino is water resistant, NOT waterproof.
Basically, this means it will wick moisture away from the body and not absorb water into the fabric itself. It will dry quickly and you won't feel damp if you perspire.
However, it does not repel water if you go surfing wearing Unbound Merino. We don't go surfing wearing Unbound Merino. You probably shouldn't either.

Most of our clothing can go into a normal wash cycle, but some items do have specific care instructions (such as winter knits and shirts). Please refer to the care instructions on the product page or on the article of clothing itself.

Our Merino shirts can stand the test of time and maintain their shape for the long term, unlike most cotton shirts and fast fashion brands out there. Just be sure to take care of them by following the specific care instructions on your garment.
Product
To understand why Unbound Merino doesn’t retain odor, it’s first important to understand why most shirts end up smelling after a wear or two. The sweat from your body doesn’t actually have any odor. But when it absorbs into materials like cotton, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria - which is where those bad smells come from. Merino wool doesn’t give sweat the opportunity to develop bacteria because of how effectively it wicks the moisture away from your body. Merino constantly pulls sweat away from the body allowing it to evaporate. This keeps you dry and keeps your shirt from smelling bad.
We have put our product to the test like you wouldn’t believe. We have tried to find the limits of how many wears our clothing could handle before absolutely needing a wash and we haven’t found that limit yet.

- Worn 46 days in a row without exception
- In that 46 days worn in the gym around 6 or 7 times through heavy cardio (testing the product was the motivation for the gym more so than sheer discipline)
- Worn twice in the sauna (we meant it when we said we took this to the limits)
- Worn to bed some nights and stayed on the body right through the day
- Taken to Shanghai, Bangkok and Koh Tao, Thailand and worn daily in sweltering 40-degree weather (see our Indiegogo video). All of the above was done without a wash. It never smelled. Not even slightly. It’s important to note that whenever it was worn and heavily perspired into, it was hung up to air out and dry off before being put back on. Nobody wants to wear a wet shirt, and it does need to air out so that the moisture wicks away and bacteria isn’t formed. When alternating between 2 or 3 shirts over a trip, you can go months without a wash with ease.

It feels completely different to the touch than the traditional wool you’re thinking of. It’s light and soft on the skin and with its moisture-wicking properties, it maintains that smooth feel all day, even when you perspire while wearing it.

If for any reason a piece is not right for you (or you need a different size), send it back for free. It’s simple: just use our complimentary return shipping and prepaid labels to get it back to us fast.
You can return or exchange clothing purchased directly from unboundmerino.com as long as it is unworn, unwashed, and in the original condition in which it was delivered. We are happy to offer a full refund or exchange for any reason within 90 days from the ship date.
Please note that exchanges are subject to availability, and a refund will be processed if the product you requested is unavailable. All socks, underwear and bras purchases are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged for sanitary reasons. Shipping costs on the original order (including duties and taxes) are not refundable. Refunds are issued to the original payment method on the order, which may include gift cards if one was used.

About Us
Our clothing is designed in our hometown in Toronto, Canada. The wool is sourced from Australia. And the yarn, fabric and garments are manufactured in factories in Italy, Canada, China, Vietnam, Romania, Korea and Japan.

Unbound Merino was created by three lifelong friends. We spent our high school days taking road trips across America to see our favorite bands. Every time we came home, all we could think about was saving enough money for the next big adventure.
It didn’t take long until we turned our sights on the rest of the world. Like many seasoned travelers, we were drawn to the incredible natural benefits of Merino wool. The fabric was perfectly suited for travel, but it was typically designed as high performance outdoor activewear, with flashy logos and unnecessary embellishments. Sure, it performed great on a hike, but we wanted something that did that and also looked great at a restaurant, in a museum, at a rock concert and out on the town.
After years of researching, designing, and prototyping - we partnered with industry leaders to create the most stylish, versatile and highest performing Merino wool clothing that’s made specifically for travel and everyday life.
Our purpose is to create simple, high performance clothing that is versatile enough for any occasion.

We only work with independent, mulesing free wool farms. Every year Merino sheep will grow a fleece that is humanely sheared with care, helping to make our clothing natural, renewable and biodegradable.
We are located right in the heart of downtown Toronto. Though we don't have any brick and mortar stores, Toronto is where our shipping facility and most of us reside.
